The GHS (Global Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals) targets on classifying chemicals according to types of hazards in order to ensure a high-level protection of human health and environment during transport, handling and use of the chemical substances. This is achieved by the use of standard symbols and phrases on the packaging labels and by Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
CLP is the EU Regulation on Classification, Labeling and Packaging of substances and mixtures. The Regulation entered into force on January 20th 2009 and adjusts previous EU legislation on classification, packaging of chemical substances (Directive 67/548/EEC) and preparations (Directive 1999/45/EC) to the GHS.
